Why This Matters
Your Level 3 gate speech is a 10-minute high-stakes address — the longest and highest-threshold submission in the program. At this length, structure has to carry real weight across multiple sections, not just one clean arc.

Suggested pace: about a week. This lesson works best across a few short sessions, not one sitting — write today, come back and revise in a day or two, then rehearse once more before you submit. Real progress comes from returning to the same skill more than once, rested, not from cramming it all in at once.
This Week's Exercise
Day 1–2 Start Here — Reflect
Before outlining, think about the last long-form talk you sat through that never lost you — what structural choice kept you oriented the whole way through? Ten minutes is long enough that structure has to do real work, not just exist.
Day 3 Draft & Rehearse
Outline your 10-minute speech in four distinct movements: the stakes, the case, the turn, the charge. Write one sentence describing what each movement accomplishes.
Check the transitions between movements — a 10-minute speech that changes gears without signaling it loses the audience exactly where it needs them most.
Identify the single moment intended to be the speech's peak, and make sure everything before it is building toward that moment, not competing with it.
Read the full draft aloud, timed. At 10 minutes, pacing problems compound — a slow opening costs you more here than in a 2-minute speech.
Day 4–5 Go Deeper & Rehearse Once More
For each of your four movements, write the one sentence you'd use to transition into it — not just what the movement contains, but how you'll signal the shift. A movement without a clear entrance often reads as a tangent instead of a deliberate turn.
Day 6 Before You Move On
Does each of my four movements have a clear, signaled transition into it?
Is there one clear peak moment, with everything before it building toward it rather than competing?
Did my timed read land close to 10 minutes without rushing the ending to make up time?
Day 7 Coach's Note — Cicero: A speech of this length isn't just a longer short speech — it's a different structural discipline entirely. Command a room for ten minutes by knowing exactly what each minute is doing for you.
